History of H. P. M e y e r

Henry Pendergast Meyer was born on May 22, 1871 at Kala'e, Molokai. He was the eleventh and final child of Rudolph and Kalama Meyer. Known as Uncle Pennie, Henry's principal responsibility was to keep the family supplied with venison. He was never married. In 1901, Henry and his friend, James McGuire went on a hunting trip to New England. There the youngest Meyer shot a bull elk. The rack remains to this day in the possession of Yola Forbes at Ho'olehua, Molokai. Unfortunately, Henry caught a cold which turned into pneumonia and on November 3rd, 1901, passed onto that dark trail of Kāne. His body was returned to Molokai and is interred at the Meyer Cemetery in Kala'e.
